Introduction:
Curaçao, the second country I ever ventured to as a solo traveler, is an island in the Dutch Caribbean that boasts a rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes. From its crystal-clear waters to its unique blend of languages and flavors, Curaçao offered an unforgettable experience.
About Curaçao:
Currency: The currency used in Curaçao is the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG), often referred to as the Florin.
Language: The local language is Papiamentu, a unique Creole language derived from Dutch, Spanish, and English. However, English is spoken widely across the island. The rich linguistic blend is a testament to the island’s diverse history and cultural influences.
Location: Curaçao is located in the Dutch Caribbean, situated off the northern coast of South America. The island is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which adds an interesting European flair to the Caribbean setting. Curaçao, along with its neighboring islands Aruba and Bonaire, forms a group known as the ABC Islands, which are all part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and are located in the southern Caribbean. These islands are known for their warm climate, stunning beaches, and unique culture.
Hotel Stay:
During my stay in Curaçao, I stayed at the Floris Suite Hotel. I’d have to say at Floris Suite Hotel, the customer service truly stood out as exceptional. Initially, I wasn’t too thrilled with the room I was assigned. A few hours after checking in, I received a request to write a review about my experience. I decided to share my honest feedback, and to my surprise, the very next day, I received a call from the front desk. They let me know they had read my review and offered to upgrade me to a different room at no additional cost.
I was in for a delightful surprise! The upgraded room far exceeded my expectations—I initially thought I’d be moved to a room with similar amenities, but instead, I was given a space that felt much more luxurious and comfortable. This experience was a testament to the hotel’s dedication to ensuring their guests have an outstanding stay.
Activities and Places to See:
Aquafari: My experience with Aquafari was nothing short of amazing. Despite not knowing how to swim, I felt safe and comfortable throughout the excursion, thanks to the skilled and reassuring diving guides. It was an unforgettable underwater adventure that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Curaçao.

Swinging Queen Emma Bridge: This iconic floating bridge connects the Punda and Otrobanda districts of Willemstad, the island’s capital. It’s a must-see landmark that offers picturesque views and a unique engineering marvel. Walking across this iconic floating bridge provides a unique sensation as if you’re a staggering drunk person.
Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue: This historic synagogue is known for its sand-covered floor, providing a glimpse into the island’s Jewish heritage. It’s a culturally rich site that offers insight into the history of the island’s Jewish community. The sand is said to symbolize the journey of the Israelites through the desert, and it adds a fascinating touch to this cultural and historical site.
Street Art: Take a stroll through the streets of Willemstad and admire the vibrant street art that adorns the walls. It’s a visual treat that adds to the island’s charm.

Local Boutiques: Don’t miss out on checking out handcrafted trinkets and souvenirs at local boutiques. It’s a great opportunity to find unique items to take home as memories of your trip.
Eats:
Plasa Bieu: If you’re looking to savor the local flavors of Curaçao, Plasa Bieu is the place to go. This popular food market offers a wide variety of traditional dishes, showcasing the island’s culinary heritage. This food market is the go-to place for local eats. During my visit, I indulged in delicious conch with rice and peas beans, sweet plantains, and mashed potatoes from two different food stalls – Grasa di Dios and Zus di Plaza. To wash it down, I enjoyed freshly squeezed lemonade.

Food Truck: Don’t miss out on the late-night eats from the food trucks that are highly recommended by locals. I had a delicious meal of fries with conch, peanut sauce, and onions. The portion was generous, easily enough to be shared between two people.

Conclusion:
Curaçao is a destination that truly offers something for everyone, from its stunning beaches and underwater adventures to its rich history and cultural experiences. My solo adventure in Curaçao was filled with memorable moments, and the hospitality of the locals made it all the more special. Whether you’re a solo traveler or planning a trip with friends or family, Curaçao should definitely be on your list of must-visit destinations.
Yours truly,
